Melodic Dictations (Non-Rhythmic)

Strengthen your melodic hearing with 20 progressive dictation exercises. Begin with conjunct movements within the Pentachord of C Major and progress to all notes of the C Major scale and chord-based leaps.

Melodic Dictation Exercises

These non-rhythmic exercises focus purely on pitch identification. Starting with stepwise motion in a limited range (C-D-E-F-G), the difficulty gradually increases to encompass the full C Major scale and intervals based on chord tones. Practice melodic dictation along with the full video playlist on YouTube.

Series progression

  • Stepwise motion within C–D–E–F–G
  • The complete C major scale
  • Leaps using tonic and dominant chord tones
